Simplified Messaging Settings
One Toggle, Full Control
We’ve simplified the messaging settings from a three-way configuration (OFF/ON/TRIAL) to a single ON/OFF toggle. WhatsApp is now the primary messaging channel when enabled, with optional SMS fallback.
What’s Changed
Settings Panel
The messaging configuration is now straightforward:
- Messaging Toggle - Turn customer messaging ON or OFF
- SMS Fallback - When enabled, messages automatically fall back to SMS if WhatsApp is unavailable
No more trial mode or complex configurations to manage.
Connection Status Indicator
A new status indicator shows your WhatsApp connection health in real-time:
- Green indicator - WhatsApp is connected and ready
- Orange warning - WhatsApp is disconnected, messages will use SMS fallback (if enabled)
The indicator appears in both the messaging settings and when composing messages.
Confirmation Before SMS Fallback
When WhatsApp is disconnected but SMS fallback is enabled, you’ll see a confirmation prompt before sending. This ensures you’re aware that the message will be sent via SMS (which incurs costs).
Clear Channel Indicators
Message history now shows which channel was used for each message:
- WhatsApp icon - Message sent via WhatsApp
- SMS icon - Message sent via SMS
- WA→SMS badge - Message intended for WhatsApp but sent via SMS fallback
Migration
All existing settings are automatically migrated:
- Previous ON or TRIAL mode → Messaging enabled
- Previous OFF mode → Messaging disabled
- SMS fallback settings are preserved
No action required from operators.
Why This Matters
- Simpler configuration - One toggle instead of three options
- Cost awareness - Clear indicators when SMS fallback is used
- Transparency - Always know your WhatsApp connection status
- Message clarity - See exactly which channel delivered each message
